Letter: Adultery

In response to Rachel Feltman’s article, “Is cheating more ‘natural’ for humans than monogamy?” concerning the 37 million people who are committing adultery. May I give the Christian perspective on the issue, since 70 percent of your readers are Christians. For those who are unsaved, adultery may be “natural” for them because “... The ‘natural man’ receives not the things of the Spirit of God ....” (1 Corinthians 2:14) One of the 10 Commandments is “You shall not commit adultery.” (Exodus 20:14) Jesus said, “... whosoever looks on a woman to lust after her has committed adultery with her already in his heart.” (Matthew 5:28) “Be not deceived: neither fornicators ... nor adulterers ... shall inherit the kingdom of God.” (1 Corinthians 6:9-10) “But the ... whoremongers ... shall have their part in the lake which burns with fire and brimstone: which is the second death” (Revelation 21:8)

Friend, if you have committed adultery, you are on the road to hell. But Jesus loves you (John 3:16) and he said, “... You must be born again.” (John 3:7) Repent. If you confess your sin Jesus is faithful and just to forgive you for your sins and to cleanse you from all unrighteousness. (1 John 1:9) His love ran red washes sin pure white.
