I am a laboratory scientist, and have made my living as such for over a decade now. I have had the opportunity to work with a number of Ph.D.’s both from this country and from others. After reading about the current situation on immigration and how people seem to think Ph.D.’s deserve special treatment, all I can say is, spoken like people with no real-world experience on the subject. I, for one, feel that our economy, community and country as a whole receive a more valuable contribution from the good people who come here simply to harvest our fields, than from many other and more educated groups combined. Immigrant workers work harder and for less money than most of us are willing to. They contribute to our local agricultural industry and our food security as a whole. And they do it for less respect than any other group I know. Many of the Ph.D.’s I’ve worked with are basically useless.
