You can see the signs around Boise, “Be Idle Free Boise.” I believe this is a great campaign for our city. The tremendous waste of energy and extra pollution dumped into the air is inexcusable. An especially frustrating sight is one of police cars idling with no officer in view. Boise’s finest seem to be one of the biggest culprits in not following this campaign, when they should be setting an example. I work at a local hospital and regularly see multiple police cars idling empty outside the ER at any hour, day or night. Even today, Aug. 21, at the YMCA, there was a police car idling in the parking lot with no officer in sight. To make matters worse, throw in the fact that we as taxpayers are paying for the fuel to run those empty police cars. These idling cars only harm the environment and help stoke the notorious Boise inversions. As residents of this great city, let’s stand up for “Be Idle Free Boise.” Next time you see an idling car, police or not, let’s encourage them to turn the key and keep Boise Idle Free. beidlefreeboise.org.
