The death penalty must be considered in this election. I know that many people feel that if someone takes a life, their own life must be taken in return, but I disagree. Isn’t the whole point of the illegality of murder that killing is wrong? Besides, it seems to me that murder itself is a cry for help. The Columbine murderers killed themselves at the end. So did Hitler. They think that after they are executed, their pain will be over. So give them the rest of their lives to think about what they did. Who knows what conclusions they may come to. Is it expensive to care for them? Yes, it is. It may be the first time anyone ever has cared about them. But to kill someone just because it’s cheaper than providing for them for the rest of their lives — money over an irreplaceable life — seems very wrong to me. We have a chance, not just this election, but every day, to forgive and be forgiven. Let’s make the most out of it. God gives it to us. Let’s give it back to him.
