Letters to the Editor

Letter: Republicans

As I read Opinions Editor Robert Ehlert’s editorial of Aug. 6, I wondered if I were reading a newspaper other than the Idaho Statesman. I challenge readers: Republican, Democrat and others to disagree with his thesis as to what is wrong with the Republican Party.

His analysis of the Republicans’ dilemma is spot on. As long as citizens support the radical-right wing of their party, listen to the inflammatory quackery of the likes of Rush Limbaugh, Glenn Beck and Fox News, Republicans will continue to wade through the quagmire of falsehoods and propaganda. Moderate Republicans will join the Democrats and Democrats will retain the White House. Hopefully, Congress will slowly return to some semblance of compromise.

To quote the great Republican president Abraham Lincoln, “A house divided against itself cannot stand.”

James E. Odenkirk, Boise
