It is depressing to read that the state has spent $900,000 in legal bills in defending indefensible positions — illegal government contracts, blatant discrimination based on sexual orientation and unconstitutional First Amendment restrictions on behalf of private business interests (the dairy industry). It is even more depressing to learn that Gov. Butch Otter wants to ask his ideologue cohorts in the Legislature for another $1 million next year to continue tilting at windmills at taxpayer expense. Since when is this type of wasteful spending considered “conservative” or “good stewardship?” It is not “defending the Constitution,” it is pushing a political agenda with public money. With the great need that Idaho has for spending on education and infrastructure, this use of our taxpayer dollars is beyond folly.
