Kid yourself not, there’s more than a few people who question the intelligence of the American voter. When their party loses an election, they blame the winner for winning. In doing so, they’re blaming the same system by which their party wins an election. Democracy is not something that’s right every now and then or we don’t have two different democracies, as some seem to think. Thirteen presidents in my lifetime. Seven Democrats, six Republicans, and I can say in all honesty, I didn’t do any better or worse under one administration or the other. Almost 60 years of work and I don’t recall it being any easier or harder with a conservative or a liberal in the White House. I would be the first to say, support your party, work hard for it, but when the dust has settled, democracy must be the winner. If not, the day will likely come when it’s “God help us all,” because “we the people” will have been guilty of allowing our democracy to die.
