As a longtime teacher in the West Ada School District, and audience member at the recent board meeting, I am compelled to respond to the negative comments made by the Idaho Statesman in their July 9 editorial regarding the new board of trustees.
First of all, I was happy to see fresh faces serving on the board, and I was excited to hear their passion for public education, and their desire to support students, educators, parents and administration at all levels. Never did I observe “drama” (as stated in the editorial).
Rather, I was witness to an interested board of trustees who provided oversight by asking questions, seeking clarification, and requesting more information in an effort to, presumably, make informed decisions, rather than simply “embracing Linda Clark,” as suggested in the editorial. And, after all, isn’t that what a board of trustees is supposed to do?
