Your June 30 headline “Fill up today to beat tax increase” serves only to perpetuate the myth that high gas prices are due to state and federal taxes on gasoline. From January to today, my cost for a gallon of gasoline has varied from about to $2 to $3, a one dollar fluctuation in six months. None of that variation was due to any change in taxes. Yet you suggested we should rush out and buy gas because the price might change by seven cents July 1.
