“Soylent Green” – A 1973 science fiction film where most of the people of a depleted Earth survive off the processed food ration called Soylent Green. The ingredients were discovered later, to the viewer’s disgust. At the time, this seemed far-fetched, but it seems possible, probable actually, if we allow moneyed interests to diminish our food quality. You need to know what you are eating.
I was at a restaurant where I thought I could find real food. I picked a cobb salad the menu said had avocado. I dug into the cut-up avocado covering the top. After two bites I realized there wasn’t any taste. When I looked closely, I distinguished differences — the avocado appeared too perfect, with a slight film. I asked the waitress if the rest of this “avocado” was in the kitchen. No, she admitted. The restaurant bought it packaged and she wasn’t sure if it was even an avocado. So much for whatever else was on the salad.
Soon after, at another restaurant, an advertised avocado omelet came with the same product.
I won’t be going back to either restaurant.
