Like the heat? This is our future under climate change.
Are you enjoying these 100 degree days? Looking forward to another couple of weeks of this? If so, you are in luck because this is a peek into our potential future. If we do not reduce carbon dioxide emissions, projections indicate Boise summers in 2100 will feel like the current summers in Las Vegas. Your kids don’t like the trees lining the streets of the City of Trees? No worries, most of our trees can not survive the summer temperatures found in Las Vegas. Want to save money on your season pass at Bogus Basin? Your children are in luck, there won’t be enough snow. Looking forward to the smokey days of August? With persistent western droughts, we should have lots of fires and bad air to breath for many summers to come.
On the other hand, if this is not the Boise you want for your grandchildren, ask your representatives to put politics aside and plan for our future. There are cost-effective solutions to meet the climate change challenge, we just need the will to make them happen.
