Letter: Gay marriage

The problem with the SCOTUS ruling on Gay Marriage is it reinforces the fallacy that We the People need permission from our government for what is really a private and personal matter between two free individuals who were born with certain unalienable rights, including the right to marry whom we please. The correct ruling from SCOTUS should have been the government has no authority to regulate marriage between two consenting adults, and that state-required marriage licenses are a continuance of an illegal mechanism with no purpose other than to oppress and collect revenue for the state.
