In 1941 Franklin Roosevelt, then president, said “the only thing we have to fear is fear itself.” Today the only thing we have to fear is the media. The police shootings in some communities and how bad the police are for their overreaching enforcement have been way overemphasized. But there has been little emphasis on the many police officers killed by blacks or whites. Nor of the thousands and thousands of good things the police do every day that protects the rest of us from harm. Instead of the constant criticism of the police, why doesn’t the media take time finding out how much good is being done every day by the police of this country and especially our really fine police department here in Boise. No one seems to realize that most of the people police have to deal with are the lowest element of the community. It just may be difficult to change gears when they are dealing with you on a law enforcement problem. Before you condemn the police, you should stop to think that every day they go out to protect you not knowing whether they will go home that night or not.
