Letter: Free-range kids

The opinion piece “Are ‘free-range’ kids really the problem?” (April 14 Statesman) should be a wake-up call for every citizen of the country. The adults reporting kids walking home unattended, in broad daylight, from a park less than three blocks away, and the police detaining them for hours in a squad car, reside in Silver Springs, Md. Silver Springs is a suburb of Washington, D.C. These freedom-killing nut cases are the people who are running our federal government. If we don’t speak out against this sort of independence-killing regimentation of children, it will spread.

We might want to remind our senators and representatives that we’re paying attention to what’s happening to kids in the national septic tank right under their noses. God help us.
