I am writing in regards to the latest instance in this year’s legislative session that exhibited extreme religious intolerance. I am very concerned about the legislative lunch that Rep. Vito Barbieri organized. The speaker, Shahram Hadian, espoused his misguided, undocumented feelings about Muslims in Idaho. I am particularly alarmed that he called out the root of this “problem” being that Idaho is a “refugee dump.” I am afraid that this kind of Islamaphobia will lead to hate crimes. Idahoans, please make a stand for religious freedom and continue to welcome our new Americans. Refugees come with hope and determination to make a good life for their families and the community in which they are resettled.
