Letter: Our rights

Many Americans and our legislators are making a mockery of the Pledge of Allegiance, the preamble to the Constitution, and the first sentence of the second paragraph of the Declaration of Independence.

The pledge says: “One nation under God with liberty and justice for all,” not one nation under money with liberty and justice for rich, straight white people. The Declaration of Independence says: “We hold these truths to be self evident, that all men are created Equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of Happiness.” The preamble to the Constitution says: We the people of the United States, in order to form a more perfect union, establish Justice, insure Domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defense, promote the general Welfare and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America.

When will we stop denying these rights to blacks, women, LBGTs and immigrants, and live these pledges?

Jesus wouldn’t deny these rights to any one of God’s children.
