I am a retired teacher of 40 years. Retired from a 37-year career in California, and taught three years for Boise School District. I’ve seen a lot of mistreatment of people in those years. Many times from the very people that are in charge, such as teachers, coaches, administrators and parents.
The No. 1 article in the Statesman’s 15 stories to catch up on, dated March 23, was how South Junior High students embraced D.W. Trantham (transgender girl) upon arriving to school on Friday morning, wearing stickers saying “I am D.W.” Giant kudos to student Grace Soto for spearheading the wonderful gesture. Now, maybe the adults in charge can learn a great lesson from the compassionate students who show support in the face of controversy. Go South.
