Another Idaho child died due to gun owners being negligent of locking their weapons. Had the stolen gun been secured in a gun safe this tragedy could have prevented teenagers in Caldwell from accessing a deadly weapon.
According to ATF, 173,000 guns are stolen annually while other studies show 500,000 guns are stolen yearly, indicating that the vast majority of theft of firearms remains unreported. It’s high time we legislate responsible gun ownership requiring gun owners to lock their firearms. Additionally, if gun owners don’t properly secure their deadly weapons, and children or criminals access them and take a life, they should be charged with negligent homicide. My condolences to the family who needlessly lost their 15-year-old son.
