Gov. Butch Otter remains hospitalized in Boise’s Saint Alphonsus Regional Medical Center, where he is recovering from an infection after a back surgery July 14.

The surgery was actually his second this month for a ruptured or bulging disc.

He first underwent surgery on July 7, according to his office spokesman. He went home the following day to recover. After further testing, the second surgery was scheduled.

No acting governor is needed while Otter is hospitalized.

“Otter is in contact with his staff via telephone and is staying informed on issues,” said spokesman Mark Warbis.
