Fox News personality and 2008 presidential candidate Mike Huckabee will speak at the Idaho Republican Party convention on June 12 — the night before Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul's address.
Huckabee was fourth in the latest GOP presidential poll, with 10 percent of Republicans and GOP-leaning independents naming him as their top choice for 2016. In the CNN/ORC poll, Paul was tied with former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush with 13 percent. Rep. Paul Ryan of Wisconsin was third, at 12 percent.
Huckabee will address the Convention Kickoff Dinner at the Best Western University Inn. Paul is the banquet keynote speaker at a much-larger venue on June 13, the University of Idaho's Kibbie Dome. GOP Chairman Barry Peterson has expressed the hope that 18,000 people will attend Paul's speech.
In December, New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie campaigned in Coeur d'Alene for Gov. Butch Otter. Christie was fifth in the CNN poll, at 9 percent. The poll of 473 people has a margin of error of plus or minus 4.5 percent. Interviews were conducted May 2 through 4.
A Thursday news release from the party follows:
