Congressman Raul Labrador, a Republican from Eagle, has thrown his support behind Todd Hatfield in the primary for Idaho controller.
Hatfield is challenging Brandon Woolf, who was appointed as controller after spending most of his career working in the office. Woolf and Hatfield are the only candidates for the seat.
Labrador in a news release predicted Hatfield will add accountability, transparency and "free market perspective" to the position.
"Todd is friendly, intelligent and hardworking," Labrador said. "His fresh approach to problems and support for conservative principles makes him right for this job."
Hatfield and Labrador met in 2008 while working to elect Republican legislative candidates, the congressman said.
"I know Todd will make government accountable, more transparent and will work to stop the state Land Board's practice of buying businesses that compete against the private sector," Labrador said.
