A Lewiston soldier has been killed in Iraq by a car bomb, the Idaho National Guard said Wednesday night.
Army 1st Lt. Luke C. Wullenwaber, 24, died Tuesday in Khaladiyah while conducting a security mission. A vehicle with an explosive device mounted on it detonated near the vehicle in which Wullenwaber was riding.
Wullenwaber was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 506th Infantry Regiment, 2nd Infantry Division, based in Camp Greaves, Korea.
According to Idaho sports.com, Wullenwaber played defensive back and fullback on the Lewiston High School football team in 1997-1998, his senior year.
