Bill Gardiner almost missed seeing his brother, Spc. Dustin Gardiner, be the first soldier step off the plane Tuesday.
"I actually saw him as he came down the ramp and I was running," Bill, told his mother, Lu Lineberry of Nampa. She missed the arrival.
"Excited was the word," Bill Gardiner said. "When you see the door open and you see him there, it's exciting."
"I was trying to find a parking place," Lineberry said.

Lineberry told Dustin, "I'm having a big dinner for you on Friday and tonight I thought you can do whatever you want."
Dustin hadn't thought that far in advance. His priorities, besides lots of hugs and kisses for fiance, Paige Dunne of Meridian, included a shower and change of clothes.
What else did he miss?
And besides food?
