A fire one mile south of Givens Hot Springs in Owyhee County is headed for containment and no longer threatening structures, the BLM reports.
Earlier, evacuations were anticipated along Summer Camp Road.
“It’s pretty much wrapped up,” BLM spokesman Kevin Moriarty said at 6:15 p.m. Tuesday.
Official containment was projected for 8 p.m. Tuesday, he said, and a skeleton crew will be on hand Wednesday to monitor the burn and combat any hot spots. The fire burned 419 acres, the agency reported after mapping the area by aircraft. Earlier estimates indicated a burn of more than 500 acres.
The fire began as a controlled burn on private property Tuesday morning but quickly spread. Authorities were called at about 11:45 a.m. Tuesday. The BLM is leading the effort to fight the fire, with help from the Murphy-Reynolds-Wilson fire department. Along with several engines and other ground equipment, a type 1 helicopter, type 3 helicopter, single-engine air tanker and air attack were used.
Conditions on the ground were hot and dry, but there was hardly any wind — a factor that helped firefighters, the BLM spokesman said.
