Watch out for kids headed back to school Monday

Schools starting Monday: Boise, West Ada, Kuna and Vallivue

Speed limit near schools: 20 mph in most areas

Fine for speeding in a school zone: $156.50

Who’s watching: Law enforcement in Boise and Meridian will beef up patrols around schools on opening day.

Buses: Boise police say if a school bus has its red lights flashing or the bus stop sign arm extended, you must stop in either direction on a two- or three-lane road (a street with a turn lane). On a four-lane road, you must stop if the bus is moving in the same direction you are.

Police advice: Cross streets at crosswalks. Walk bikes, scooters and skateboards across crosswalks. Cross quickly. Make sure children know all the traffic signs. Look both ways before crossing.
