The keynote address for #24hrThink was given by Sam Levin, creator of the Independent Project. Levin was bored and frustrated with his Massachusetts traditional, public school, so he created his own project-based school.
Levin said he has a love of public school, but the system is currently broken.
He outlined four issues:
1. Students are disengaged
2. The world is not divided into subjects. Why is school?
3. School lacks mastery
4. No collaboration
Levin said our schools and communities need an upgrade and we're "the ones who will do it." He said we don't need technology or inspiration — we already have that.
We simply "need space to run."
Learning the design thinking process starts now.
