Four Canyon County residents face murder charges after Steven E. Nelson, 49, died of injuries he received in a beating and robbery early Friday.

The crime was initially reported as a beating and robbery in which the victim’s clothing, car and other possessions were stolen near Gott’s Point at Lake Lowell. .The severely injured victim, later identified as Nelson, made his way to a nearby home around 5:45 a.m., the sheriff’s office reported.

"Because of a senseless act of violence and greed, a man has lost his life," said Sheriff Kieran Donahue, calling the crime "heinous."

Four suspects were being booked into the county jail late Friday on charges of first-degree murder and robbery, and few details of the bizarre incident were available.

The suspects are Kelly B. Schneider, 22, Kevin R. Tracy, 21, and Jayson C. Woods, 28, all of Nampa, and Daniel A. Henkel, 23, Caldwell. In addition to murder and robbery; Schneider also faces a grand theft charge.

Nelson’s car, a 2006 Chevrolet Impala, was later recovered.
