Canyon County man serving life for lewd conduct dies in prison

Jay Bruce Gorton, 74, died of natural causes at the Idaho State Correctional Institution medical unit, the Idaho Department of Correction announced Thursday.

Gorton was found unresponsive in his bed at 6 p.m Wednesday, and medical staff were unable to revive him, according to a news release.

He was sentenced to life in 2008 for sexually abusing two young girls for about four months. At the time, he was a registered sex offender with two convictions from the 1980s.

The Ada County Sheriff’s Office and coroner responded as part of routine procedures for any death at the prison, the Department of Correction reports. ISCI is a 1,446-bed, medium-security men’s prison south of Boise.
