Police arrest suspect in Nampa hostage situation

A Nampa man accused of holding a hostage Saturday in a standoff with police, was arrested, according to Nampa Police Department.

Stuart Bernardo Valenzuela, 52, of Nampa, was charged with aggravated assault, false imprisonment and unlawful possession of a firearm.

Police responded to a report of a hostage situation near the 300 block of Pops Avenue around 2:10 p.m., according to NPD.

A 44-year-old Nampa man was checking on his friend, when Valenzuela reportedly pointed a gun at the man through the window. The Nampa man’s friend, a 56-year-old, resident of the home, was held hostage for about an hour, police said.

Valenzuela has a criminal history and was a convicted felon from California. He’s in Canyon County Jail and more charges are possible, police said.

He could face up to 11 years in prison and $11,000 in fines under the current charges, according to NPD.
