Taco truck, stolen from Boise, found in rural Owyhee County

A taco truck towed away from a Boise parking lot before dawn Tuesday was found about 50 miles away late that night, Owyhee County Sheriff's Sgt. Kenny Hoagland said Wednesday.

The 14-foot Basilio's taco truck was found on a large parcel of private property in the China Ditch area between Murphy and Marsing, Hoagland said. As of Wednesday afternoon, no arrests had been made, and Hoagland said it has not been determined whether the residents at the property where it was found were involved in the theft.

Boise police are investigating the theft, which happened about 3 a.m. Tuesday in a parking lot on West Fairview Avenue. A dark-colored extended cab pickup truck was seen pulling the food truck down Fairview, police said.

The taco truck has been returned to its owner, police said, but it sustained damage during the theft.

Owyhee sheriff's deputies located the taco truck thanks to a tip that came in to Ada County authorities, Hoagland said. The truck was "pretty much in plain sight" on the China Ditch property, he said.

Boise police had alerted the media and public to the theft Tuesday afternoon, circulating a photo of the food truck and asking for information on its whereabouts.
