Joshua S. Schmidt, 35, faces a felony charge of malicious injury to property in connection with the incident, which forced evacuation of the Civic Plaza apartment building in the 200 block of East Front Street Wednesday morning.
Schmidt also faces misdemeanor charges of contempt and resisting or obstructing officers.
Boise police and firefighters responded to a fire alarm at the apartment building about 8:20 a.m., and officers found evidence that a resident on the building's sixth floor intentionally destroyed a sprinkler, flooding his apartment and about nine others, officials report.

Boise firefighters swept the building to make sure it was safe for residents, and began damage cleanup efforts. Residents and occupants were allowed back inside the building after approximately 45 minutes outside.
A private restoration company was brought in to help clean up the mess, fire department spokeswoman Tammy Barry said. Damage to the apartments was substantial, police said.
