Former Middleton councilman sentenced to eight years in prison in sexual battery case

Bradley D. Spencer was sentenced Tuesday to eight years in prison, and he will spend at least two years in prison before he’s eligible for parole, according to online court records. He was also ordered to pay $750 in fines and fees.

Spencer, a former Middleton city councilman, pleaded guilty in March to sexual battery of a minor.

According to court documents, the 56-year-old man told Idaho State Police that he repeatedly had sex with a 17-year-old girl and knew she was a minor. He told investigators that he and the girl were in love, according to a probable cause affidavit.

He was arrested Sept. 4, a day after the girl and her father told detectives about the sexual relationship. Spencer resigned from the Middleton City Council Sept. 8, the day he posted $100,000 bond and was released from jail.
