A Meridian man was arrested and charged with first-degree arson after reportedly attempting to light his residence on fire, according to Meridian Police.
Raymond Bradshaw, 50, of Meridian, had doused his garage with gasoline and set it on fire. A relative put out the blaze before any serious damage had been done to the home, police said.
"It was a small fire in the garage that was out on arrival. There were no injuries," said Perry Palmer, deputy fire chief for Meridian Fire Department.
A concerned relative made a 911 call just before 10 p.m. about the incident.
Meridian Fire is still investigating the burn, but there was probable cause to arrest Bradshaw for arson, Palmer said.
Arson is punishable by up to 25 years in prison and a $100,000 fine, according to police.
