A cab driver stabbed a passenger who was choking him early Thursday morning near the 1300 block of West Greenhead Drive, according to the Meridian Police Department.
Riley Talbot, 25, of Merrill, Ore., and another passenger were picked up by a cab around 2 a.m. Thursday, said Tracy Basterrechea, deputy chief of police.
The cab driver was “trying to find the residence for the passenger (Talbot). At some point, the passenger became angry with the cab driver,” Basterrechea said.
Talbot reportedly began choking the driver, and the other passenger attempted to stop him, the deputy chief said.
The cab driver told police he was afraid he was going to lose consciousness, so he stabbed Talbot in the arm, Basterrechea said.
The passenger trying to stop the strangling was stabbed in the hand, Basterrechea said.
Talbot fled the scene and attempted to enter a Meridian residence, but the resident refused and called police. Talbot tried to enter another home, but was arrested, police said
Talbot was treated for his injuries and charged with aggravated battery, possession of marijuana and attempted unlawful entry, Basterrechea said. The cab driver was fine after the incident, according to Basterrechea.
