A Boise woman initially accused of missing a court date and shoplifting about $60 worth of merchandise was later charged with drug trafficking after Boise police officers found about 16 grams of suspected heroin on her, authorities say.
Jessica L. Garza, 28, of Boise is charged with three felonies: trafficking in heroin, possession of a controlled substance and failure to appear. She has two misdemeanor charges as well: petit theft and possession of drug paraphernalia.
BPD first responded to a report of shoplifting at about 11 p.m. Tuesday at a supermarket near Fairview Avenue and Milwaukee Street. Police saw Garza had attempted to shoplift the merchandise and also that she had a felony warrant for failing to appear in court, according to a Wednesday news release. They then searched her and discovered a small plastic baggie containing suspected meth. A police dog searched Garza’s vehicle and found the bag of presumed heroin, according to the release.
Garza is still in custody and was scheduled for an arraignment Wednesday afternoon, according to court records.
