An Ada County jury deliberated for three hours on Friday before finding Anthony R. Schmidt, 28, guilty of aggravated battery, following a four-day trial.

Sheriff’s deputies arrived at a home in the Locust Grove and Franklin Road neighborhood on Aug. 27, 2015, to find a man holding a towel on his bleeding neck.

The man said he opened the front door to his home and was attacked by a man he didn’t know. The attacker pulled out a razor, he said, and cut him across the throat. The man then ran away and left in a car.

The victim spent a week in critical condition in an area hospital.

Detectives identified Schmidt as a suspect a few weeks later. Investigators said Schmidt was related to someone who had a dispute with the victim.

The jury also found Schmidt guilty of use of a weapon in the commission of a felony.

Sentencing is scheduled for Nov. 16. Schmidt faces up to 15 years in prison for the battery and up to 10 additional years on the weapons charge.
