A woman living with two minor children reported to police last month that she saw a man peering in the window of her home in the area of West Fort Street and North 10th Street.

Officers with the Boise Police Department searched the area but could not locate the man.

Over the next few weeks, however, investigators found evidence that the man had returned to the victim’s yard on several occasions.

Officers identified the suspect as Matthew C. Mayer Jr., 64, and brought him in for questioning on Wednesday. He was later arrested and charged with felony first-degree stalking.

Mayer does not have any previous criminal record in Idaho, according to online court records. He was scheduled to be arraigned Thursday afternoon in Ada County Magistrate Court.

If convicted, Mayer would face a sentence of between one and five years in prison.

Police are seeking additional information on the suspect and are looking to see if there may have been additional victims. They would also like to talk with anyone who noticed similar suspicious behavior. They ask that informants call Crime Stoppers at 343-2677 or leave a tip online.
