Hay fire near Star Road damages structure, farm equipment

Firefighters from several Ada and Canyon County departments responded to a hay fire Tuesday afternoon that damaged farm equipment near Star Road and U.S. 26.

Reports came in of a barn fire shortly before 1 p.m. in the 7500 block of West Joplin Road, Ada County dispatch reports. The Star Fire Protection District took the lead on fighting the fire.

Crews from Nampa, Middleton and Meridian also responded to help extinguish the fire, which happened in an area without fire hydrants, KBOI-TV, Channel 2, reports.

Firefighters said the burning hay ignited the structure that covered the haystacks and damaged a nearby tractor, other farm equipment and a travel trailer, Channel 2 reports. No livestock or pets were reportedly harmed, and the owners were not home when the fire started, the TV station reports.
