Home suffers fire damage reportedly caused by juveniles playing with a lighter

A Meridian home was damaged by a fire Thursday that investigators believe was started by two juveniles playing with a lighter.

Meridian firefighters responded to the call of a grass fire at about 8:05 p.m. at the 1100 block of Fairview Avenue.

Crews found a spreading grass fire that was scorching a fence, house and was threatening two other houses, according to Meridian Fire Department.

The fire was contained within 10 minutes with the help of three engines, two brush trucks and a ladder truck, according to Meridian Fire.

No one was injured in the fire, and the owners of the burned home received assistance from the Burnout Fund, according to Meridian Fire.

Police suspect two juveniles caused the fire when they were playing with a lighter, but officers are not sure whether they will pursue arson charges, according to Meridian Fire.
