A reported sighting of a mountain lion near a Kuna elementary school Thursday afternoon caused a brief lockdown at several schools, but investigators found no evidence of a cougar, the Ada County Sheriff's Office reports.
A Kuna resident reportedly spotted what appeared to be a cougar eating their cat’s food in their yard in the 600 block of Syrup Court, near Indian Creek Elementary, ACSO spokesman Patrick Orr said.
The call came in shortly after 2:30 p.m., Orr said, and three Kuna schools — Indian Creek, Ross Elementary and Kuna Middle School — locked down from about 3 p.m. to 3:45 p.m. Parents were notified they could pick up their children, but school buses waited until Kuna officers could confirm the area around Indian Creek was safe, he said. The school is located at 911 W. 4th St.
Kuna officers searched the area and found no trace of a big cat, Orr said. Idaho Fish and Game was notified.
