A 22-year-old man went missing in the Snake River Tuesday after attempting to swim from the Celebration Park dock to the Owyhee County bank, according to Canyon County spokesman Joe Decker.
The man apparently jumped off the dock, then encountered trouble about 20 feet from the bank, Decker said.
A couple of adults on the dock swam after him, but didn’t reach the man before he went under. People riding bicycles nearby called in for help, Decker said.
Owyhee and Canyon counties worked together to search for the man, but called it off when it got dark. Crews were back on the scene Wednesday, resuming the search with deputies and at least one search boat, he said.
The incident is considered a “possible drowning,” but Decker said the chances of finding the man are “slim.”
