A firearm malfunction possibly led to the shooting, which injured a 65-year-old Caldwell man, Canyon County spokesman Joe Decker said.
The man was listed in critical condition Thursday evening, Decker said.
An eyewitness to the mid-afternoon incident said the man had just gotten to the range and was setting his gun down when it fired, KBOI-TV, Channel 2 reports.
An air ambulance responded to the George W. Nourse public shooting range and transported the victim to a Boise hospital, Decker said. The Canyon County Sheriff’s Office also responded.
The shooting was reported at 1:49 p.m. at the range, located on Nash Lane south of Nampa.
