An 18-month-old boy ran behind his father’s truck around 7:45 p.m. Wednesday, just as his father started backing up, the Canyon County Sheriff’s Office reported Thursday morning.
The child’s mother yelled and attempted to alert the father, Todd Squires, 29. But he didn’t hear in time, and hit his child, Mick Squires, outside their home in the 15000 block of Barrett View Circle, just south of Caldwell. The parents performed CPR on their son and paramedics rushed Mick to the hospital. But the boy died from his injuries, authorities said.
The Canyon County Prosecutor’s Office will review the incident; no charges or citations had been filed Thursday morning. Drugs or alcohol were not a factor, according to a statement from the sheriff’s office.
Idaho State Police also helped at the scene.
