The Ada County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the death of an inmate at the Idaho Maximum Security Institution, a 516-bed prison south of Boise.
A prison employee found Roger Vincent Arellano, 62, dead in his cell at 5:21 a.m. Tuesday, according to the Idaho Department of Correction. His cause of death is not yet available.
Arellano was serving a possible 10-year sentence for an aggravated battery case out of Bingham County. He could have been in prison through February 2024, though he was eligible for parole starting next February, according to online prison and court records.
It’s standard practice for ACSO to investigate unattended deaths in the South Boise Correctional Complex, where Arellano died.
