Two baby red pandas were born at Zoo Boise in June, and visitors may be able to see the cubs as they begin to explore their surroundings.
One female and one male cub were born to parents Dolly and Winston June 18. This is the fifth litter of red pandas Zoo Boise has welcomed, according to a Zoo Boise press release.
The cubs and their mother were given privacy in their first few weeks and weekly check-ups have shown the baby pandas are in good health. Over the next few weeks, the best chance to see the cubs will be in the mornings and early afternoons, according to the release.
Red pandas are on the endangered species list, so the cubs’ parents were matched for breeding as part of the Red Panda Species Survival Program to ensure the species continues to reproduce and be diverse, according to the release.
