The captain of a United Airlines flight returned an airplane to the Boise Airport terminal after it began taxiing for takeoff around noon Friday, said Layne Watson, a spokesman for SkyWest Airlines, which was operating the flight for United.
Three passengers were removed for questioning and later cleared, Watson said.
The captain’s decision to halt the flight reflected “an abundance of caution” in response to passenger’s concern about material spotted on a fellow passenger’s smart phone or tablet, Watson said. The first passenger alerted a flight attendant, who in turn alerted the captain, Watson said.
Authorities removed the second passenger and two members of the same traveling party from the plane for questioning. Watson declined to say what the nature of the material on the mobile device was.

The United flight continued to its destination. The three passengers who were questioned were later booked on the next available flight to Chicago, Watson said.
