World Village Festival celebrates diversity in the Treasure Valley

World Village Festival, once a segment of the Hyde Park Fair, launched its own three-day celebration Friday at Capitol Park.

The festival hosts film, poetry, dance, live music, crafts and food created by people who want to share their culture and learn more about the Treasure Valley community, said Janelle Sutherland, board member of Global Lounge, that organized the event.

"There's a lot of mono-cultural festivals and events in the Treasure Valley, but we want one that includes all the diversity, all the different ethnicities and cultures within the Treasure Valley," Sutherland said.

The festival will continue Sunday with outdoor yoga, a flamenco workshop, a modern Afrique fashion show, traditional Mexican dancers and a performance from Steve Fulton.
