Mountain Home man dies in motorcycle accident

A Mountain Home man died after a motorcycle crash on Highway 51, south of Mountain Home, according to Elmore County Sheriff's Office.

Virgle Crane, 48, and his passenger Melissa Eckiwaudah, 44, of Mountain Home were driving south on Highway 51 Friday. The road was wet with recent rainfall. Crane went off the right edge of the road trying to navigate a curve. He hit a reflector post and lost control of the motorcycle near milepost 86. He and Eckiwaudah were both thrown from the motorcycle, according to the sheriff's office.

Crane was pronounced dead on the scene. Eckiwaudah suffered life-threatening injuries and was transported to the hospital, according to the sheriff's office.

Neither were wearing helmets during the crash. Investigators are performing blood tests to determine if alcohol contributed to the crash, according to the sheriff's office.

The health status of Eckiwaudah is unknown at this time.
