Fire damages Boise homes, but no one hurt early Thursday

A fire that flared up in a Boise shed in the 7500 block of West Rygate Drive damaged two nearby homes, but no one was injured, according to the Boise Fire Department.

A man, his 15-year-old daughter and three pets were able to get out of the home safely before firefighters arrived. Boise Fire had originally said three people were in the home, but corrected that report later Thursday morning.

The fire scorched the shed, on the side of a house, and spread to that home and front yard. It also spread to a house next door. The shed is a complete loss and the first home was heavily damaged, while damage to the second home was slight, according to the fire department.

Fire investigators have not yet determined the cause.

Firefighters notified neighbors of the blaze in case they needed to prepare to evacuate, said Fabia Dsouza, who lives near the affected house.

“We’re so glad it didn’t get bigger than it was and that nobody was hurt,” she said.

The fire department’s Burnout Fund helped the family secure temporary shelter.
