Yadira Ibarra Vargas, 24, died when her vehicle hit a tree on Ustick Road near 43rd Street Tuesday afternoon, Garden City Police report.
Four young children who had been in the vehicle at the time of the crash escaped serious injury.
A friend of Ibarra Vargas’ family said Wednesday that the family had asked for privacy and would not release details on her or her children. A GoFundMe account has been set up to cover funeral expenses.
Ustick Road closed in both directions after the 4:14 p.m. crash and remained closed for several hours while officers investigated what happened.

Other drivers stopped and helped rescue the children, ranging in age from infant to 7 years old, from the car. Police said all four were transported to Saint Alphonsus Regional Medical Center with injuries that did not appear to be life-threatening. They were released from the hospital by Wednesday.
The woman was pinned in the driver seat and died at the scene. The Ada County Coroner’s Office reported her cause of death as blunt force trauma.
On Tuesday evening, police were still trying to determine what caused the woman to drive into the median and hit the tree. Ada County sheriff’s accident reconstructionists are assisting in the investigation.
